Three Sisters Native American Garden PhotosAccording to Iroquois legend, corn, beans, and squash are three inseparable sisters who only grow and thrive together. This tradition of interplanting corn, beans and squash in the same mounds, widespread among Native American farming societies, is a sophisticated, sustainable system that provided long-term soil fertility and a healthy diet to generations.

Growing a Three Sisters Garden is a wonderful way to feel more connected to the history of this land, regardless of our ancestry.

Read more in Renee's article "Celebrate the Three Sisters", with complete historical and planting information.

Doesn't this look like a fun combination to grow!

I was perusing this website the other day looking at all the unusual (many antique) flower and vegetable seeds that I could buy and plant this year! She has so many different sweet peas it would make your head spin! They are one of my very favorite flowers - I think I will try the two-toned purple and scarlet ones this year - the antique ones have such a strong beautiful smell besides being absolutely gorgeous. Or I may try the variety that was in Thomas Jefferson's ( or was it another president? Check out the website to know for sure) garden that look like a cluster of small orchids. Maybe I'll try both........ I definitely want to try the French haricot beans in both green and yellow. Hmmm....thinking spring fever has struck! May ask for money to buy seeds for my birthday!

Check out Renee's Garden Seeds.com and start planning your garden! Her seeds are also available at Edward's here in Boise and Andrews Nursery in Ontario! That way you could save on shipping!

Happy Gardening and Happy Super Bowl Sunday,

Lissa
